1.PhD Research Project - Diversity and function of Arctic benthic ecosystems and their resilience to climate change

Marine sediments form a major reservoir in the global carbon (C) cycle and C cycling or burial in these sediments constitutes an important ecosystem service that sequesters C on geological time scales. Climate change is ongoing, and amongst the most striking evidence of climate change is the rapid reduction of Arctic Sea Ice. In coastal Arctic marine ecosystems, change is compounded by melting glaciers via increasing freshwater influx, turbidity and iceberg scouring, with profound consequences for primary production (PP). Due to close benthic-pelagic coupling in arctic marine ecosystems, changes in PP are likely to cascade quickly to benthic food webs, and key ecosystem functions such as carbon and nitrogen cycling or storage.

This studentship will investigate the impact of changes in the community composition, ecology and contributions to benthic carbon transfer of arctic primary producers on benthic food webs and ecosystem functions, and the resilience of the latter to rapid change. To this end, we will conduct two field campaigns in the High Arctic, one during late spring (sea ice present) and one in late summer (open water season). On each occasion, the relative significance of algal communities as food source for the benthos will be assessed. The relative contribution of different algae to benthic carbon sequestration and turnover will be studied via analysis of biomarkers, compound specific isotope analysis, and isotope labelling experiments

2.Ingeniero/a naval

La empresa requiere un Ingeniero Offshore para integrarse en el Centro de Tecnología, donde será responsable para el cumplimiento de proyectos offshore en el ámbito de la generación eléctrica

REQUISITOS:

- Ingeniero/a Naval o equivalente.

-Mínimo 5 años de experiencia relevante en el sector offshore (experiencia relevante en renovables, petroleo es una ventaja)

-Competencia en el diseño de estructuras offshore/plataformas, preferiblemente flotantes.

-Conocimiento de software especializado (SESAM, WAMIT, PATRAN, ORCA-flex, FAST, BLADED, códigos de CFD etc ) y los códigos y estándares internacionales de offshore.

- Conocimiento de la teoría de cálculo hidrodinámico. Experiencia en su aplicación a proyectos reales.

-Experiencia en la preparación de bases de diseño/ especificaciones/ procedimientos de trabajo para ejecución de proyectos de ingeniería.

FUNCIONES:

-Selección de sistemas y tecnología offshore, incluyendo tipo de plataforma, sistema de anclaje y equipos submarinos.

-Cálculo hidrodinámico (análisis teórico, herramientas de simulación).

-Análisis de condiciones meteoceánicas locales y definición de condiciones de diseño.

-Liderazgo de proyectos de I+D para el desarrollo de nuevos conceptos y/o evaluación del potencial. de nuevas tecnologías (no-probadas), incluyendo eólica flotante offshore y energía marina.

-Selección de concepto para desarrollo de proyectos offshore.

-Supervisión de diseño conceptual/FEED de sistemas offshore, así como su clasificación/certificación.

-Seguimiento de la evolución de tecnologías offshore, así como la capacidad de ejecución del tecnólogo/contratista(s) responsable.

-Definición de planes de acción para posicionamiento temprano en oportunidades tecnológicas emergentes, como por ejemplo renovables offshore.

-Asistencia a diferentes unidades operativas en la toma de decisiones tecnológicas, evaluaciones tecnológicas y mejora de operación de activos.
