CEI·MAR participates by areas of specialisation

Since its inception, the CEI·MAR has been able to count on the experience and activities originating from the participation of its researchers and institutions in supra-national strategies oriented to the development and exchange of experiences that generate and transfer knowledge. There are many networks oriented and specialising in the marine environment in which they participate at the institutional level. The following are some of the most prominent:

  • EUROCEAN (European Centre for Information on Marine Science and Technology)
  • MARBEF (Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning)
  • MGE (Marine Genomics Europe)
  • Unión Astronómica Internacional
  • Unión Internacional de Geodésica y Geofísica
  • Redes ILRS (International Laser Ranging Service)
  • WEGENER (Working group of European Geoscientists for the Establishment of Networks for Earth-science Research)
  • INTERMAGNET (Red global de observatorios geomagnéticos)
  • Redes sísmicas a escala europea y mundial: GEOFON, ORFEUS, IRIS, etc.
  • GLOBEC (Global Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics)
  • LOICZ (Land-Ocean Interactions in the Coastal Zone)
  • EURAMET (Organización Metrológica Europea)
  • IBERMAR (Red Iberoamericana de Manejo Costero Integrado)
  • REGIAL (Red Española de Gestión Integrada de Áreas Litorales)
  • CYTED BIORECA (Bioprocesos para la Remediación y Reducción de la Contaminación Ambiental)
  • Cátedra Internacional UNESCO “Wise Coastal Practices for Sustainable Development”

Other inter-university cooperation networks

The Pablo Neruda programme for the mobility of researchers and professors of doctoral programs in five Latin American countries; the La Rabida Network focused on internationalisation and cooperation with Cuba and Mexico; the Latin American Network for Legal Studies; the Latin American University Postgraduate Association (AUIP) aimed at cooperation for training at the Master's and doctoral levels, among others.

International CEI·MAR Classrooms

Since its inception, the CEI·MAR‘s international character is intrinsic to the Campus through its institutions by defining international networks for teaching and research with certain parts of the world that are preferential due to different strategic, cultural or even historical reasons; it is constituted as permanent university spaces in which international cooperation activities in education, research and management are carried out. This is the case of the International Classrooms. Three International Classrooms at the UCA already function for the CEI·MAR and their activities will be transferred to other institutions. To strengthen the relationship with Portugal, there are plans to create a new Classroom that projects transborder activities with this country to the rest of the Campus.

  • AUE, University Classroom of the Strait of Gibraltar
  • AUI, Latin American University Classroom
  • AUHR, Hispano-Russian University Classroom
  • AUHL, Hispano-Portuguese University Classroom

International Doctoral School for Marine Studies

The Doctoral School for Marine Studies aims to be an inter-institutional structure (universities, research organisations, businesses and technology) that develops the organisation of doctoral programmes that revolve around a maritime theme and research lines corresponding thereto through coordination among the institutions that make it up. This School is open to national and international agreements for the integration of doctoral studies at any university that wishes to join it and whose subjects are related to the CEI·MAR‘s areas of specialisation.

The creation of the International Marine Studies Teaching and Research Network will complement the School and promote the creation of specialised courses, new joint undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and new Erasmus Mundus Masters and doctorates. This network will integrate as many universities and institutions specialising in the marine environment at the international level as needed in order to lead Europe in marine research.
