This covers all of the areas of knowledge and research relevant to the various forms of marine engineering, naval and oceanic engineering and civil engineering related to ports and coasts.
CEIMAR sees naval and oceanic engineering as covering the design, planning, design, manufacture, installation, repair, and maintenance both of ships and any other maritime artifact such as fixed or floating devices designed for the exploitation of renewable marine energy, aquaculture resources or other resources that may be extracted from the sea. Civil engineering covers the development, planning and execution of such structures as ports, piers, docks and breakwaters, among others.
Sea water is very corrosive for all materials submerged in it, which results in a drastic diminution of their useful life and high maintenance costs for ships and other marine structures. For this reason the study of materials in the sea is included in this area.
